Lulu White stands out from the other line of bars on the increasingly trendy Rue Frochot in Pigalle. The bar is inspired by real life New Orleans legend, the madame of notorious brothel Mahogany Hall during Louisiana’s Storyville period at the turn of the 20th century.
Like its sister Little Red Door, you won’t find a sign on the door here. Its dark, discrete façade hints at its old-school speakeasy theme. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a neon light depicting Lulu White herself. You turn the corner are instantly struck by how surprisingly elegant this tiny treasure is. But don’t worry, despite its killer cool vibes, the staff is nothing but friendly and unpretentious. They take their time to help you pick out the best cocktail based on your taste. An ode to New Orleans, jazz musicians play live almost every night. They do switch it up, however, with an eclectic playlist. Expect the likes of everything from The Strokes and Howlin’ Wolf to French electronic. The jazzy backdrop adds flavour to an already creative drinking experience.
Their signature cocktails are all around 13€, well worth it considering the amount of time and craftsmanship which goes into each and every glass. They make exceptionally inventive concoctions. Prepare to sip on a cocktail packed with uniquely enticing ingredients and nosh on edible flowers.
If you’re on a budget, you can enjoy a delightfully refreshing €6 blended Grasshopper. Envision a boozy mint chocolate chip granita. You can also nosh on pickled eggs for €4. Lulu White is the perfect spot to start off your Pigalle bar crawl. Keep in mind, they’re open until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 a.m. on weeknights, making it a great spot to cap off your evening on a classy note. Regardless of when you stop in, if you appreciate great style and amazing craft cocktails, you’ll having a roaring good time.
